All three Mashionistas owe a great debt to Coventry’s Homebrew Club run by Ritchie at Twisted Barrel Ale. All three of us learned to brew there, asking advice and testing our beers on critical friends. It’s such a great group pf people – yes it’s mainly male, but not entirely, but Flo never felt out of place.
Last night was the annual freestyle brewing beer challenge – brew anything you like and Homebrew Club and then an expert judging panel will score it (40:60) with the highest score winning the opportunity to brew their creation with Twisted Barrel on their full kit. We won the first one, two years ago, with Peggy Lee our smoked decaff coffee porter and were thrilled to see it being sold all over the place!
Last night’s worthy winners were Tom and Jas, with an Imperial Breakfast Stout. They kindly gave us a bottle so we’re looking forward to an occasion special enough to open it!
Coventry Homebrew Club meets usually on the third Tuesday of the month, 7-10pm and there’s beer to share, brewing challenges, and often guest speakers. The next one is Tuesday 21 August, so why not come along?
