We’re always keen to talk about our beers – and have already spoken at our local homebrew club and CAMRA – but our first invitation to do a proper Meet the Brewer event – By Invitation and With Tickets – felt very different.
Back in February 2019, Sean from Loughborough’s Needle and Pin came to check us out having heard about us on the grapevine. He took a keg and some bottles back, and both were really well received by his locals and he has been a great support to us ever since.
In April he asked if we would do a Meet the Brewer at his place, and we jumped at the chance but said we’d need some time to run up at it as he wanted 4 kegs of, preferably new, different beers. As we brew infrequently, and in small amounts, and he had had most of our beers already, we set a date for October.
Sean’s request was kegs of 2 pales, a sour, and a dark. We immediately knew we wanted to brew them the biggest baddest version of Reeses 2B Cheerful we could, as they’d enjoyed the previous 2 versions, and we had been planning a 4% pale already. The beer that came out of the blue was a Flanders-style red. As fortune would have it it coincided with people mentioning their surplus garden and allotment fruit to us and so, bingo, a red aged on fruit was created.
We ran out of time to do a second new pale, but frankly everyone loves Slurple Haze so that’ll be our fourth keg beers for the night. We’ll also offer tasters of As Lime Goes By and our collab with Twisted Barrel, Satsumatra. Hopefully people will feel they’ve had a really good night with us… Watch this space to see how it goes…
